Profile Description

The museum is composed of two sections: the stratigraphic section of 2001and the typological of 2011. In the first section the artefacts are exposed from the most recent to the ancient ones (from the 2nd to the 4th Century BC); in the second section the artefacts are exposed according to their typology.

Among the artefacts there are: miniature little pots, illustrated ceramic with black and red painting, the oil-lamps, the bronze cup, the tripods, the sculptures etc. There are some artefacts of great importance such as the guttus (feeding bottle), the jar with the female head of the painter Nyn, the clay statuettes of Artemide Efesio, the amphora representing Heracles and the lion Nemeo (brand of the Civico Museo Archeologico), the lekythoi pagenstecher with black figures representing some birds and fine female figures.

The Civico Museo Archeologico is realized in collaboration with the Superintendence for the Cultural Heritage following the discovery of the Hellenistic necropolis of contrada Santo Pietro, happened during the excavation of the necropolis for the building process of the Istituto Tecnico per Geometra. It is placed in the ground floor and in the basement of the Collegio gesuitico, that today is the Town Hall. It was inaugurated in 2001 and inside it there are 50 funeral equipments of the 4th and 2nd Century BC
