Museo Etno-Antropologico delle Madonie di Geraci Siculo

Museo Etno-Antropologico delle Madonie di Geraci Siculo

Profile Description

The Museo delle Madonie is mainly based on the ethno-anthropological objects and iin fact, it is the site of the first recorded and documented historical memory of the people living in Geraci and in the Madonie.

It collects and presents in various expositive rooms the reconstruction of the environment, with scientific and technical parameters and techinques of educational outfittings, testimonies and exhibits of cultural material that make reference to the agro-pastoral and craft civilization (arts, crafts, customs and traditions) of the People of the Madonie, through the reconstruction of the locations of the various business cycles and of the experiences of these citizens.

Minor sections of the Museo delle Madonie are detectable in the artistic-historical section (which contains two paintings from the former Church of the Civic Hospital), in the architectural-monumental section (which contains interesting lithic artefacts and ancient buildings, from churches to civil ruined homes), and finally in the gallery of the Sicilian folk art (Foundation Buttitta).

The Museo delle Madonie, designed and created by Vincenzo Piccione, born from the experience of a great documentary and ethno-anthropological show based on the topic <The memory of the past for a more human present> (7 August 1983), as an activity of cultural animation of the Geraci Town Library.

On a proposal of the same creator, the City Council established this museum with a deliberative Act n. 121 of 25 March 1985. From1983 to 2008 the Museum, through the work of the various municipal administrations, undergoes shifts of the allocative seats; only in 2009, thanks to the same designer, it is finally allocated in the monumental former Convent of PP.Cappuccini.
