Museo “Mandralisca” di Cefalù

Museo “Mandralisca” di Cefalù

Profile Description

The various artefacts of the museum are recollected inside special sections as for that concerning Archaeolog. In this section, one of the most important works is the famous crater of the tuna-fish salesma. The numismatics comprehends almost all the Greek mints of Sicily. There is even a picture gallery that, apart from the various important pictures, houses one of the main works of Antonello da Messina, the Portrait of a Ma. Finally there are also the archaeological, ornitological and malacological sections.

The museum takes its name from its founder, Enrico Pirajno of Mandralisca (1809-1864). He understood the truly importance of both the culture and education; for this reason he expressed in his last will and testament the wish to build a lyceum in order to host all his great propert. Once having nationalized the lyceum, a new museum was build in the same house where the baron lived, in the heart of the historic centre, a short distance from the Cathedral.
