Palatine Chapel of St. Anne

SHORT DESCRIPTION:

In 1684 Francesco Rodrigo Ventimiglia and the Serpotta brothers stipulated a contract for the stuccoes of the new chapel of the municipal castle dating from the 14th Century. These works will last for three years. The last Century of splendour of the Ventimiglia family ends in the best possible way, which began in 1632 when Castelbuono received the title of “city”. The baroque style of the Serpotta brothers – a sumptuous spectacle extremely full of images – is a frame for the rigorous sacredness of the relic of the Virgin Mary’s mother, guarded in this same chapel. “The most luxurious chapel of a feudal building existing in Sicily”, as described by the medieval architect Rodo Santoro
