The Gallery of the Sicilian popular arts

Description:

It constitutes a section of the “Museo delle Madonie” since 2013 and shows a series of museum artefacts concerning the Sicilian popular arts thanks to a valuable collaboration with the Foundation “Ignazio Buttitta” of Palermo, the owner of these artefacts.

This precious collaboration, stipulated in 2010 with a special agreement with the municipality of Geraci Siculo produced the birth of this interesting museum section called “Gallery of the Sicilian popular arts”.

This gallery shows some cases which house very interesting findings related to the popular arts of Sicily of the XVIII – XIX and XX Centuries: some ceramics, keys and sides of carts (area of Palermo), ex-voto waxes, Aerophones – idiophones (whistles made of terracotta from Caltagirone), finds of the Puppet’s theatre, sceneries and towels with telling figures; sketches for the painting of the carts, balance of “semenzaru-caliaru’ (Sicilian street vendor during the feasts of roasted seeds and various cereals), tissue-papers of commercial activities of Sicilian products.
