SHORT DESCRIPTION:
The little monetary treasure of Pagliuzza composed by 541 pieces of silver, is one of the most significant discoveries carried out in Sicily that can be traced back to the Roman-Republican Age. The coins were discovered in 1989 as a result of the agricultural works in an area a
few kilometres South of Caltavuturo. The coins were found at a depth of about 40 cm, scattered in the soil while others were preserved in an achromatic baked clay found shattered. Two excavations, conducted by the Superintendence, allowed to bring to light a farm dating from the late third century BC.
