Description:
In the historical-artistic section of the museum is to report, in addition to the valuable painting of the Transfiguration of Giuseppe De Garbo (1794), the precious little painting of “Mater Salvatoris” probably of a Flemish artist, perhaps dating to the end of the 16 Century and the beginning of the 14th Century (?).The small cloth represents the Virgin Mary while giving her breast to Jesus.
The canvas owned by the Municipality of Geraci Siculo comes from the former Church of SS. Salvatore that was the ‘Chapel’ of the Civic Hospital of the “Monte di Pietà” up to 1975 (acts ‘Ratiocinij’ of the “Monte di Pietà 16th and 17th Century), of which the City Administration, through a Congregation of Charity, was over time the single entity that owned and managed both the Hospital and the Church (acts of 1913/1933, moral/laic authority appointed by the Municipal Council).
Unfortunately, the Civic Administration of the time shot down this Church to realize a Town Clinic in 1975, taking the custody of the Works contained therein.
