Description:
In the historical-artistic section of the Museum is to report the remarkable painting of the Transfiguration of Giuseppe De Garbo from Castelbuono (dating to 1794); the pictorial work represents the Gospel story of the Transfiguration of Christ between Moses and Elijah together with the apostles Philip, James and John.
The canvas of modest size constituted the high altar of the church of SS. Salvatore of the former “Monte di Pietà” – Civic Hospital, owned by the City of Geraci Siculo; this painting, in fact, comes precisely from the former Church of SS. Salvatore that was the ‘Chapel’ of the Civic Hospital of the “Monte di Pietà” up to 1975 (acts ‘Ratiocinij’ of the “Monte di Pietà 16th and 17th Century), of which the City Administration, through a Congregation of Charity, was over time the single entity that owned and managed both the Hospital and the Church (acts of 1913/1933, moral/laic authority appointed by the Municipal Council).
Unfortunately, the Civic Administration of the time shot down this Church to realize a Town Clinic in 1975, taking the custody of the Works contained therein.
