Cardu

SHORT DESCRIPTION:

U cardu was a chestnut wood object of a rectangular shape. At the centre of it, at about 28 cm of distance from the extremities, there was a little piece of squared wood on which there were a series of iron nails created inside the blacksmith’s forge. There linen’s production happened through two processes: This “cardu” served “pì sciardari u linu”, after being “spatuliatu”; then, he passed from the first cardu (there was the production of the “linizza” used to light the fire.) to the second. While “a rizzatura” and “i tuppi” were spun in a second moment: “a rizzatura” served to weave more rough things, while “i tuppi” served to obtain some sheets, towels, bedcovers etc.
