Profile Description

The building spreads over two levels which still retain traces of their original function in the splendid grills masterfully intertwined according to two specific orders. It has two sections: the Geological and the Archaelogical. This Museum network, also wanted by the “Ente Parco delle Madonie”, engages in the network of museums situated in the Madonie enriching it, as well as to raise even more the cultural offerings of the area. – The Civic Museum “Antonio Collisani” is divided into the following sections:

Room I Collisani collection
Room II Alberto Pucci collection
Room III Grotta del Vechiuzzo
Room IV Geologic Museum Geopark Madonie “Giuseppe Torre”
Room IV Alberto Pucci collection of Benisichi (iunder construction)

The Civic Museum “Antonio Collisani”, established in November 2003 by the local council of Petralia Sottana, is set inside the restored rooms of the old prison that can be traced back to the 15th Century. The structure contains two sections: the Geological and the Archaeological.

The two expositive spaces was created in two different times: in 2004 the geological section opened for the European Geopark International Meeting held in Petralia Sottana and the archaeological ones in 2008 with an exhibition of the precious Collisani collection. A small room is designed to expose the Alberto Pucci collection of historical postcards of Petralia Sottana, and a copy of a coin of ancient coinage named “Petrino”.
